Public hospitals in Singapore have ward classes: Class A is a single room, B1 is a 4-bed ward, and B2 and C are larger wards with more heavily subsidised rates. Private hospitals offer single rooms and shared rooms at their own rates.
A group hospital plan pays for a particular ward class, or sets a daily room and board limit that works out to one. The entry plans in our calculator pay for a 4-bed ward in a public hospital; the top plans pay for a single room in a private hospital.
If an employee chooses a higher ward than their plan covers, the plan may pay only up to its limit, or pay a proportion of the whole bill. Knowing the entitlement before a planned admission avoids unpleasant bills.
