Room and board

The daily hospital charge for the bed, meals and basic nursing care, which plans cover up to a daily limit.

Room and board is usually the first line of a hospital plan’s benefit schedule. It covers the daily ward charge, meals and general nursing, and plans set either a ward class or a daily amount in dollars.

A daily amount decides which ward an employee can stay in without paying the difference. For example, one insurer’s entry plan pays room and board up to S$100 a day, and its middle plan up to S$400 a day.

Plans also limit the number of days covered each year, and intensive care is usually a separate, higher daily limit.
