FWMI (foreign worker medical insurance)

Medical insurance the Ministry of Manpower requires employers to buy for each Work Permit and S Pass holder, covering inpatient care and day surgery.

Employers of Work Permit and S Pass holders must buy medical insurance for them that meets the Ministry of Manpower’s minimum requirements for inpatient care and day surgery. The employer pays for it and may not pass the premium on to the worker.

Since July 2023 the required cover has a yearly claim limit of at least S$60,000. The insurer pays claims in full up to S$15,000 and 75% of the amount above that, and the employer pays the other 25%. MOM publishes the current requirements on its website.

Some group hospital plans meet these requirements, so a company can cover its Work Permit and S Pass holders under the same scheme as other staff. bene focuses on benefits for office teams, and we can quote FWMI on request or check whether a group plan meets MOM’s rules.
