Census

The employee list insurers use to quote and set up a group plan.

For a quote, a census usually lists each employee’s age or date of birth, gender, nationality or pass type, job role and the plan level they will be on. It also says whether each person wants dependants covered and, if term life is a multiple of salary, their salary.

Names and NRIC numbers are not usually needed to quote. The insurer asks for them when the policy is set up.

An accurate census matters: premiums are calculated from it, and at renewal an out-of-date list can mean paying for people who have left or missing new joiners.
