Glossary

Occupation class

An insurer’s grouping of jobs by their risk of accident, used mainly to price personal accident cover.

Insurers sort jobs into classes. Class 1 is usually office work, and higher classes cover jobs with more physical risk, such as travelling sales roles, manual work or work with machinery.

The higher the class, the higher the premium for accident cover. Our calculator prices personal accident at the office class.

Each insurer defines its classes in its own way, so a company with a mix of roles may have staff in more than one class.
