Insurers ask for health declarations when a sum insured goes above the free cover limit, for small groups on some plans, for employees above an age limit, or for people who join late.
The insurer may accept the employee on normal terms, exclude a condition, charge an extra premium, or decline some of the cover.
Answers must be complete and truthful. An insurer can refuse a claim if a relevant condition was not declared.
