Inpatient care, including day surgery, is covered by group hospital and surgical plans and group major medical.
Outpatient care covers GP and specialist visits, diagnostic tests, physiotherapy and dental treatment. It is covered by separate GP, specialist and dental plans.
There is some overlap. Many hospital plans also pay for certain outpatient treatments, such as cancer treatment and kidney dialysis, and for pre- and post-hospitalisation visits linked to an admission.
